The City of Lakewood is a Home Rule Municipality, the most populous municipality in Jefferson County, and the fifth most populous city in the State of Colorado. Located west of Denver and part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area, the city never had a traditional downtown area.
A relatively young city, incorporated in 1969, Lakewood has grown rapidly and now boasts a population of over 146,000 people thanks to its prime location near the Rocky Mountain, excellent schools and high yield of cultural offerings. The city’s top employer is the Denver Federal Center, but it’s also home to headquarters for Einstein Bros. Bagels, 1stBank and The Integer Group. A collection of lakes provides plenty of opportunities to swim, fish and boat.
